No spy intrigue, no clue hunting, no trying to convince others to turn-coat and join your side or become a double-agents, etc. I feel like a strategy (maaaaaaybe 4X-lite) game could work for a Cold War theme, but there doesn't seem to be anything that isn't automatically set to the concept of "Our cold war just turned hot! Shoot all the things!". Working for either the East or West, trying to convince enemy spies to turn-coat, dead drops without raising suspicion, how to deal with the fallout of a spy or military unit getting too aggressive, etc. On paper the concept seems to be perfect for a good slow burn strategy campaign or something along those lines. So that leads to the next question: Are accurate Cold War strategy games just not feasible? naaaaahh) I've browsed gaming forums here and other locations and it seems that most people just keep parroting FPS games, and that's not fitting the bill. (No, shooting tons of soviets in a bunker somewhere in Siberia wouldn't lead to a massive and destructive escalation. Most cold war games I've come across are First-Person Shooters, which is a HUGE disconnect from the idea of a "Cold" War. Between reading some Le Carre, watching documentaries and trying to learn more about espionage from that era, it seems perfect for a game to take on. ![]() ![]() I've been diving into Cold War-era history and was looking for some historically relevant games that might be up that alley and I cannot find any that seem to hit that mark. Instead I'm curious as to why it seems true Cold War-era games just don't exist? To start, I'm not asking for suggestions because that goes against the rules.
